Recorder
Head of Department - Marion Scott
Marion studied recorder, oboe and piano at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and went on to develop a career as a recorder player and teacher. Marion plays with all the leading baroque orchestras and ensembles, performing in Europe, USA and South America.

Before coming to CYM Marion was Professor of Recorder at GSMD and is currently on the staff of Trinity College and Kent Music School. She teaches on a variety of summer schools, including Recorder in Education and Irish Recorder and Viol Course.

The CYM Recorder Department has around 40 students, including some 2nd study players. All recorder students play in an ensemble appropriate to their age and experience. Most of the recorder ensembles are one-to-a part but the more junior ensembles are slightly larger so students can learn ensemble skills with support from a colleague!

Recorder players have plenty of opportunities to perform, with informal departmental concerts for soloists and ensembles as well as the weekly lunchtime concerts. We have two department sessions for all players every term, when we may learn a Vivaldi Concerto, listen to jazz, or hear the CYM recorder tutors perform – all of whom are professional players.
