Taster Course
CYM offer students the opportunity to learn less familiar instruments for a Taster period of two terms at a specially discounted rate. Please note: no local authority funding will be available for these two terms of Taster lessons. The Taster lessons are offered, subject to availability, in the following instruments: Oboe, Bassoon, Viola, Double Bass, Harp, French Horn, Percussion, Trombone and Tuba. New applicants for the Taster instruments may apply to the Centre during the Autumn term. Applicants will be asked to attend an interview where they will be given a short ‘musical aptitude test’. Students offered a place on the Taster Course begin their lessons at CYM in January. Taster Course students may opt to take choir and/or musicianship classes as well as receiving individual tuition. Students who demonstrate good progress and commitment during their first two terms of study may proceed from the Taster Course to full membership of the Centre. In Spring Taster students’ progress will be assessed and assuming that they wish to continue, any appropriate funding will be sought allowing them to join the Centre as a full student in the following September. Existing CYM students who wish to take up a Taster instrument may apply to the relevant Head of Department at any time. Places to existing pupils are offered to pupils only if their current work is of a sufficiently high standard. Please be aware that it is very unusual for any local authority to pay for pupils to learn more than one instrument at the Centre. |
