The Centre for Young Musicians Prelude strings ensemble is aimed at younger string players in school years 3-6, of approximately Grade 1 to 2 level .
The ensemble is led by Lori Norriss, a professional viola player and tutor at CYM for over 20 years. She has worked in the wider opportunities programme in Kent since 2004. Her vast experience of tutoring younger players has made Prelude Strings a valuable addition to the CYM programme.
Ensemble skills, reading, technical exercises, practical musicianship and aural training are all covered in the 90 minute session which takes place on Saturday afternoons during term time.
Care is taken to develop good posture and freedom in playing.
The course is designed to prepare string players for possible entry to CYM.
Entrance onto the programme is by audition in March/April
