Monitoring and Reporting
Monitoring & reporting
It is expected that students will dedicate regular time to practice during the week in order to maintain a high level of achievement in their studies. The progress of all CYM students is carefully monitored throughout their time at the Centre. Heads of Department are kept informed of work and frequently discuss progress with students, tutors and parents alike.
Once a year tutors provide a written report on each student which is distributed to parents, schools and funding bodies.
From time to time Heads of Department will ask to hear students play in a formal assessment and all students are encouraged to perform in lunchtime concerts and at other informal events arranged at least once a term within individual departments.
In the rare cases of students failing to progress satisfactorily Heads of Department, tutors and other senior staff will be involved in helping students to resolve any difficulties they may face.
It is likely that students will enter graded exams during their time at CYM, although this is not essential.
ABRSM and Trinity exams are taken at the end of each term. Students can only be entered when their teacher and Head of Department decide it is appropriate.
All students entering external examinations will be given help with aural and theory requirements, and be provided with an accompanist when needed.
